The “Effie M.” Mr. Joseph Morris Writes. DEAR SIR, - As many people are under the impression that Captain Fred Morris, of the ill-fated Effie M. was my son, and have sent me many messages and letters of sympathy, I would like to ask your permission to allow me space to make a correction. My son Fred was not the master of the Effie M., but is in the schooner Romeo, not yet home; he is a young man, about twenty. The master of the Effie M. was a married man, about 50 years of age, had one son with him, and leaves a widow and one son, and a daughter in service in St. John’s. Trusting this will explain matters. I also take this opportunity to thank these kind friends for their expressions of sympathy to my family, and to the bereaved in this terrible catastrophe. Also, thanking you, Mr. Editor, I remain, yours truly, JOSEPH MORRIS Trinity, Sept. 24, 1907 |
