EFFIE M. DISASTER

S. U. F. Thank Magistrate Tuff of Old Perlican

We have received the following letter for publication:

Mr. Geo Tuff, S. M., Old Perlican, T.B.

DEAR SIR, - I am requested to express, on behalf of this Lodge of United Fishermen, our universal thanks to all those members of your community who so kindly assisted in recovering the bodies of the crew of the ill-fated schooner Effie M., two of whom, viz., Arthur Sexton and James Fleet, were members of our Lodge.

It is through your meritorious efforts that we have been granted the consolation of having the remains of our departed brethren laid to rest peacefully in consecrated ground. The services thus rendered by you as well as your unselfish sacrifice of time, are such as we know could have been given only by men who in their arduous and perilous toiling have learnt to look upon all “those who go down to the sea and occupy their business in great water,” as members, with themselves, of one great brotherhood.

These praiseworthy exertions on your part are appreciated by us to a far greater extent than it is here possible for me to fully express, and the Christ like sympathy which alone must have prompted such true brotherly fellowship as you have displayed, calls for our strongest and most heartfelt gratitude and admiration.

Assuring you that your work of love will be long and thankfully remembered by us. Believe me, very sincerely yours.

                                                H. G. Bishop (Acting Sec)

                                                St. Paul’s Lodge, No. 4, S. U. F. Trinity
